Julie Allen,
My name is Julie Allen and I served as Secretary to the San Diego Off-Road Coalition for
four years before being elected Vice Chair last year. I joined SDORC because I wanted to
become proactive in preserving the sport and hobby I love so dearly. I have been
riding motorcycles off-road since before my feet could touch the ground. Dad would
push me off on a Suzuki 200 (street bike) over a dirt track and catch me (if he could)
when I came back by. I've been through numerous 2-wheeled bikes and now that I am
older, I ride a Honda 350 three-wheeler that will climb anything.
I belong to SDORC because I want to have a say in how my green sticker money is
spent. SDORC interacts with the BLM and Department. of Forestry and I have a say in
how those lands are managed. SDORC also works to have off-road friendly candidates
elected to office and we need that support in government.
All off-roaders have the same rights that I do - the right to join SDORC and have a say in
how our recreation is managed by others. The right to elect officials who will keep
our riding areas open. I urge all off-roaders to exercise his or her rights to ride.
I am also a member of Tankslappers Motorcycle Club and serve as its secretary. In
addition, I am your Off-Road AMA Congressman for District 38 and last year became
certified as an AMA Eagle.
My husband, Phillip, and I are native San Diegans: I was raised in East County and
he is a beach-bred boy. We now live happily ever after in El Cajon. By
profession, and to support my off-road habit, I have been a legal secretary for more than
twenty years.
Venessa Cunningham, SDORC Secretary
My name is Venessa
Cunningham. I am the Secretary for SDORC as well as the newsletter editor/Secretary for
both 4x4 clubs I belong to: San Diego Outbacks and On The Edge. I am a third generation
off-roader from Washington State. My Dad converted trucks to 4-wheel drive in the 60's and
70's; he also worked on most of the jeeps in our jeep club. I used to ride dirt bikes too;
my nickname is Off Road Diva and I have a "Dirt Diva" sticker, among many, on my
Zuki. I am well known in Ramona by my purple dune
buggy whip
mounted on the back of my Suzuki 4x4 Grand Vitara ( it closely resembles the Jeep Liberty)
with 31 inch tires. The lift kit I want will be the only modification I plan on making
mainly because the Zuki is my commuting car, family van, and off-road vehicle all rolled
into one. If you've been to any of the Southern California off-road Expo's or off-road
related events in the last three years, you may very well have seen me and/or my son
Gerryck there as volunteers. I have my own business in my home so that I can have more
flexibility in my home life and this also gives me the time to volunteer with all my
off-road groups that I might not otherwise have. I know my Dad would be proud of my
involvement in the groups I belong to and that's what keeps me going. I have completed the
application to become a volunteer forest ranger and look forward to the 9th Annual Friends
of the Off Road Motor Vehicle Recreation Program day in Sacramento this coming April. I
invite you to join us at the SDORC General Meeting the first Tuesday of every month or
find a way in which you can get involved. SDORC is run strictly by volunteers so that
every penny we raise goes directly to keeping public lands open to the public. I belong to
CORVA, CLORV, TreadLightly! and Cal 4 Wheel
do you? If I can answer any questions,
please contact me via email: venessa@sdorc.org.
Roy and Nancy Denner
Roy Denner is not only the Director of Land Use for SDORC and a dirt bike rider, he is
also a member of the Long Beach Mounted Police. Perhaps you've seen Roy on television, as
the Long Beach Mounted Police have been honored since 1947 with the responsibility of
leading the great Pasadena Tournament of Roses Parade.
Grammy's
Buggy
This is what you drive when you become a 61 year old grandmother. It's Nancy Denner's
desert toy. It consists of a Sand Toy frame with a 1915 high-compression VW engine fueled
by dual Dellorto carburetors. A modified bus transaxle with close-ratio third and fourth
gears transmits the power to the wheels through bus CV joints and custom axles. With four
seats and an ooOOOgah horn, Nancy can take her grandchildren riding and entertain them at
the same time.

BIO: My name is Alan Klumph. I have been an active member of the
Coalition since the beginning of it back in the early '80s and my membership number is 19.
I have been an avid off-roader for over 29 years with dirt bikes. Most of my early riding
experience was gained at the very popular Miramar riding area from 1969 thru the mid 70's
and at the desert starting at Clark's Dry Lake in Anza Borrego and then at Ocotillo Wells
SVRA. In 1972 I started racing desert races and continued off and on at that and enduros
until 1981 when I got married and we started a family. I now have an XR400 that is set-up
with a dual sport kit which allows street legal riding between trails. My family enjoys
riding dirt bikes and three wheelers and camping along with me. I also have a Jeep
Cherokee which we use to explore back country roads and trails as a family.
Today we enjoy offroading as a family unit. I work at QUALCOMM as the Manager of the
Design/Drafting Group in the Mechanical Engineering Department. QUALCOMM is a really great
company that allows its employees the flexibility to manage their careers and personal
lives in a way that benefits both. I have had the pleasure of working for QUALCOMM since
November 1994 and look forward to many more successful years there in the future.
I really enjoy off-roading as a family activity and hope to continue to have the
opportunity forever. In order to help ensure the opportunity exists in the future I am
involved with the Coalition and am a member of many other local, state and national
organizations that are fighting to preserve this form of recreation. I would like to
encourage everyone else that shares my love for this sport to become involved also.
