In Memory of Mike Thomas
1943-2007

SDORC Car & Trailer Raffle Coordinator 2005/06, 2006/07 & 2007/08

Mike Thomas, owner of Chenowth Racing Products in El Cajon, passed away on March 26, 2007. Mike had owned Chenowth since the late 70's.

Chenowth had taken the lead in 2005 by sponsoring SDORC's first raffle car. I had the honor and privilege of sharing that experience with Mike, Jon Horn, Sammy Silva and the rest of the crew.

I have been told that many times Mike could be heard saying, "is that woman here again?" or "where is that woman?" or "why doesn't that woman answer her cell phone?!" all said very pointedly but with a touch of classy humor… and kindness.

We conquered some tough obstacles, including a short time line to get the Exodus car completed in time to show at the Sand Sports Super Show. I think Mike was as proud as I was with the results.

The Chenowth "Exodus" and all of the other participating sponsors have given SDORC the financial ability to fight this prolonged battle of keeping our public land open for our off-roading.

When "one" takes the lead, others will follow… so now, we must all take our turn from time to time. Thanks Mike, lesson learned.
