Legislative and Land Use News

CHAIRMAN'S CORNER
Jim McGarvie

We had a great turnout at the March meeting at Marieta's. I don't know
whether it was because of the convenient location, our guest speakers
or the Mexican food, but I'd love to see attendance like that every month.
The new VFW location in Santee should be ready for our use by now. And
there is also a possibility that we may return to Mr. G's in Clairemont
Mesa. Let us know which of these three locations you would prefer in the
future.

We've been granted just a bit of a reprieve. The BLM announced recently
that they would not begin charging a fee for the use of the improved
areas of Glamis until sometime after Easter. One more "free" trip!

Don Amador and Marge Sutton were reelected Chairman and Vice-Chairman,
respectively, at this month's meeting of the Off-Highway Motor Vehicle
Recreation Commission. Congratulations!

Just a reminder: it is just as illegal and dangerous to operate an OHV
while under the influence of drugs or alcohol as it is to drive on the
highway in such a condition. Additionally, there is legislation being
proposed as we speak which will extend the current highway-related
prohibition against "open containers" to off-highway situations. A word
to the wise.
